Handbell Choir

The Chancel Handbell Choir is open to individuals of high school age and older. Some music reading ability is recommended. The Chancel choir plays at Saturday or Sunday Mass and special liturgies an average of once a month. Smaller ensembles as well as the full choir give special programs for the parish and the community. Our mission is to enhance the worship of St. Joseph Parish, encourage the talent and dedication of each choir member, and provide a service to the parish and local community.

Handbell practices are Wednesday evenings, September through May, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the handbell room below the church narthex.

Sherrol Shea is director of the Handbell Choir. Sherrol has a Bachelor of Music degree from Marygrove College in Detroit, and also attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and St. John's College of Cleveland. She has done graduate work at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend and VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. Sherrol was part of the original parish liturgy committee in the 1970's and children's choir director in the 1980's before taking on the handbell choirs in 1988. In addition to directing the St. Joseph Parish handbell program, Sherrol does computer pre-press layout and design for Illinois Citizens for Life.
