Lectors

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at liturgical celebrations. There are special training sessions for those who would like to be lectors.

Training sessions for Lectors are done periodically after recruitment.

Lectors are entrusted with a task reserved for deacons, priests, and bishops: to proclaim the Word of God. As Fr. James A. Wallace states in his lector training booklet, "The ministry of the lector calls for a person to grow in a warm and loving knowledge of Scripture, the living Word of God. The lector is invited to enter a relationship with a Word that is powerful and effective." Lectors at St. Joseph Church participate in an initial training session to develop appropriate skills and then attend other periodic workshops to inspire and refresh them in their ministry.
