Membership Fee
Each member will attend 8 sessions from January 8 – April 9. The fee to join is $64 for the first participant, and $44 for each sibling.

Parent Notes
Chess club members may bring a small snack to eat prior to the 2:30 meeting start time.

Preparation
It is beneficial for novice players to learn the names of the chess pieces before starting in the Club so that instruction makes sense. Web sites and books at the library are good resources.

Club Format/Materials
Each Friday session will include 20 minutes of review, 20 minutes of new material and 20 minutes of play. Chess sets, handouts and workbooks will be provided as part of the membership fee – you only need to bring your attentive self. If there’s interest, an 8-week session will be scheduled after the holidays.

Coaching
The Club will be coached by Glenbard South assistant chess coach, Jim Egerton. Jim has 15 years of experience coaching chess to children of all ages. He’s taught at local libraries and park districts, and has run chess clubs at other schools in the Diocese. He has provided a background check and completed Protecting God’s Children. Check out his web site, www.chess-now.com. If you have any questions, please email Jim at jim@chess-now.com

Decorum
It is important that the students joining the club are doing so because they want to learn and improve at the game of chess. We expect all members to behave appropriately, follow directions, and show respect to the coach, parent volunteers and fellow members so that we maintain a fun and productive learning environment.

Pick-up
Children will need to be picked up promptly at 3:30 pm from the School Hall.
