Kindergarten at St. Joe's

Kindergarten Sessions

Morning: 7:50 - 10:30 am
Afternoon: 11:30 am - 2:10 pm

Each year the sessions alternate between the North and South sides of Downers Grove:

2009 - 2010 school year: AM is North of 55th Street, PM is South of 55th Street
2010 - 2011 school year: AM is South of 55th Street; PM is North of 55th Street
2011 - 2012 school year: AM is North of 55th Street, PM is South of 55th Street

Uniforms

Kindergarten students wear the same school uniforms as students in grades 1 - 5. Warm
weather uniform options (August – October 15, May 1 – year-end) include navy blue walking
shorts and gym shoes for all students. Girls can wear a uniform jumper or navy blue slacks
with a white blouse or polo shirt throughout the school year. K – 5th grade boys wear a light
blue oxford or polo shirt with navy blue twill slacks. School shoes must be worn with slacks
and jumpers. On gym day, the Kindergarten students wear their school uniforms to gym
along with gym shoes; the girls may want to wear slacks or shorts under their jumper.

Physicals

All students entering Kindergarten must turn in a signed, current physical, as well as an
Illinois Department of Public Health dental form and eye examination form, by July 15,
2009. Please call your physicians early for these appointments; please don’t forget to
make copies for your records.

Age Requirements

Kindergarten students MUST be five years old by September 1st of the year that they start school. At registration, please provide a copy of the student’s county birth certificate, and your child’s St. Joseph Parish baptismal date (if your child was baptized elsewhere, please provide a copy of the baptismal certificate).

Bus Information

K-Club
Extended kindergarten care, called “K-Club”, is also offered before or after half-day kindergarten classes. Activities include craft projects, playing board and computer games, and going to nearby parks or the town library. To learn more, click here.
