Do You Know Jesus?

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 5:1-12a

In today's Gospel Jesus gives us guidelines for happiness, they are known as the beatitudes. The beatitudes tell us that those who are happiest are those with a strong faith. Happiness is not something to be purchased – happiness comes from within us. Reflect on the beatitudes. How can these guidelines help you to be happy?

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.

Student Council Lenten Project
New Orleans Catholic Charities

Student Council's Lenten Project coming up soon! For this year's Lenten project we will be collecting loose change for New Orleans Catholic Charities. Instead of our Lenten boxes we are asking the students to collect loose change from around the house, chairs, couches, car, and by doing extra chores.

Jars will be placed in each homeroom. Students will bring in pennies for their class. Silver coins that students will collect will be used in the "competition" for your non-homeroom class as negative points. Teachers and students will be given a more detailed list of rules. Start collecting your change today!

Student Council, along with Mrs. Fahey, will be collecting the jars at the end of each day. Pennies and silver coin points will be added up and rewarded each day. The winning GRADE will be given the opportunity to wear their uniform pants/skirt with spiritwear tops February 15.

We will start collecting change for our Lenten project February 5th and end on February 8th. Let the PENNY WARS BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Note from the Roos!
January 27, 2008 G’day Mates! Second quarter is over and here we are freezing our paws off in the cold Chicago winter. Back home in Hobart, Tasmania, our mums wrote us that it’s in the 20's and sunny. Oops, sorry that’s in degrees Celsius ( that’s in the 70's the way you measure here in the States). But we’ve had some warm weather escapes and some pretty wet ones to tell you about, so we’ll give the drum on our adventures.

CLICK HERE TO KEEP READING THE ADVENTURES OF THE ROOS!

Don’t forget to visit our bulletin board outside the Computer Lab and see all our scrapbook pages. If you have plans for future trips, fun or business, remember to give Mrs. Salek a jingle or write her a note and take one of us along. We currently have traveled 51,568 miles this school year.
We’d all like to see your pictures on a scrapbook page and hear your stories.!

Help Needed For Pads Meals (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)
Monday Evenings in March

Each Monday evening during the month of March, St. Joseph Parish will be providing a meal for PADS (shelter is located in the basement of the Church, directly across the street from the Downers Grove library). Approximately 90 homeless are served dinner, a safe night's sleep and breakfast the following morning.

Help is needed to provide either a specific food item for the dinner meal or assist in the kitchen during meal time. Church communities are also asked to provide breakfast foods for the following morning.
If you are willing to help, please call the contact assigned to each meal. We will be looking for entrees, salads, vegetables and desserts for each dinner, as well as bulk eggs, bread, bacon and cereal for each breakfast.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
