Do You Know Jesus
Sixth Sunday of Easter, Year A
John 16: 12-15

Today’s gospel story occurs at the Last Supper. Christ explains to his apostles that he will be leaving them. They were not to worry though, because the Holy Spirit would be with them to assist them in their work. God sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles, in doing so He filled their hearts with love so they could imitate Christ. At Baptism and Confirmation we too receive the Holy Spirit for the very same reason. As long as we accept God in our lives, the Holy Spirit is actively with us.
How do you emulate Christ? Do you know it is the Holy Spirit guiding you in your decisions? Your good decisions are times when God is actively with us. And your bad decisions (those that are hurtful to others or yourself) are times when He is not. Here’s a prayer* to help keep the Holy Spirit present.

Come, Holy Spirit, and breathe your life into us, so that we can bring Christ into the world and touch the lives of others with his love.

Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 Media Kit Offered to SJS Families for $75.60

Dear Parents,
I have am pleased to announce a new offering to our school families. Microsoft has expanded upon their School Agreement License, which we currently hold, to include the students’ home environment. I am now able to offer the same software we use at school, for a fraction of the retail cost.

The Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 media kit contains: Access, Communicator, Excel, InfoPath, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word.
This kit is available for purchase and use by school families for the cost of $75.60.

This is not a website download. You will receive an Office Pro Plus 2007 CD. I will only be able to order these CDs in packages of 25. Therefore, the first 25 orders will be placed, then once the next 25 are identified, that order will be placed. And so on. If you’re interested, please read the details on the order form to make sure this software will work on your computer. I hope this is one small way to thank so many of the people who helped update our computer lab with flat panel monitors. Your children and I truly appreciate it.

29% surveyed at the January 2008 Town Hall suggested that marketing our school will help increase enrollment. To accomplish that, our Marketing Committee has emailed you a survey to gain a better understanding of why families choose and value St. Joseph School. It should only take a few minutes of your time. We would appreciate your honest, confidential responses by THIS MONDAY, April 28. The homeroom with the most respondents will receive a special prize delivered on May 1. Thank you!

Student Council had a EARTH SHAKING experience while CLIMBING THE LEADERSHIP MOUNTAIN!

Not only did student council members have a great time but we also experienced an earth quake! Thank you to everyone who kept us in your prayers.

Student Council Convention was attended by 64 schools from across Illinois and 870 students and advisors! Honor council was awarded to 42 schools and St. Joseph's Student Council was given an honor council award!
Our very own Katie Gelwicks was voted in as the North East District Rep. of Illinois for the Illinois Association of Junior High Student Council. Katie was also honored with Outstanding Student Council member of the year! Congratulations Katie. Katie will be representing local middle schools at all events next year.

THANK YOU for collecting all those pop tabs! We took 45 zip lock gallon bags worth of pop tabs to Springfield! There were over 4 million pop tabs collected which generated at least $4,450 to be donated to the Ronald McDonald Houses serving families with children who are severely ill and being treated by nearby hospitals. Our pop tab house is now empty! It is time to start saving those pop tabs again!

We also experienced MWAH! www.mwah.net (Messages Which Are Hopeful!) The performance left an impact on students and chaperones alike.

Last chance to participate in Leadership camp! At this time we have 4 registered students. Call Ms. Rensi (630.910.7513) by this Friday if you want to participate! The dates for camp are June 22-28, 2008 www.iajhsc.org for further information.

Thank you to the Durkin family for a wonderful State Capitol experience. Student Council would also like to thank our amazing chaperones! Without you this experience would not have been possible. Thank you, Mrs. Gelwicks, Mrs. McGrath, Mrs. Provenzale, Mrs. Jagielo, Mrs. Watson, Mr. Fahey, Mr. Roedel, Mr. Economo, and Mr. Davis it was a trip never to forget!

Boy Scout Troop 80 will hold their annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Lincoln Room, located inside the American Legion Hall facilities, at 4000 Saratoga Ave., Downers Grove.

The ‘All You Can Eat’ menu will consist of fresh pancakes, delicious sausage, syrup, toppings, juice, coffee or milk. Customized bean bag sets will also be available on sale the morning of the annual fundraising breakfast. Individual customer orders will also be taken.

Troop 80 has been sponsored by the American Legion Post 80 since 1936 and is a member of Tallgrass District (southwestern communities) of Des Plaines Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. The DPVC council serves 43 communities in the western suburbs.

Troop 80 scouts will be attending Camp Mach Kin O Siew this summer and will use proceeds from this fundraiser for their scouting equipment fund.

The Boy Scout program introduces the teamwork concept where groups of boys learn leadership and self direction with less parental involvement. The mission statement of the Boys Scouts of America is to serve others by helping to instill values in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values instilled are based on those found in the Boy Scout Oath and Law growing tomorrow’s leaders through education, training, fitness, outdoor activities and hands-on development experiences.

If you can’t attend and would prefer to send a tax deductible contribution instead, please send to:
BSA Troop 80 c/o American Legion 4000 Saratoga Ave., Downers Grove, Illinois 60515.

Tickets are available from any local Troop 80 area scout or contact Maureen McCormick @630-964-9396. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
