Do You Know Jesus?

First Sunday of Advent
Matthew 24:37-44

            Today’s Gospel story is about leading good lives so that when the Son of God returns, we will be ready. The Gospel reminds us that Noah was one of the few prepared for the floods that God sent.
            Advent is a time to think about the second coming of Jesus. We need to ask ourselves if we’re ready for Christ’s return. Being ready does not mean that we have to be extraordinary. It means that we should do the ordinary things in our lives well - being honest, being fair, being helpful. Basically being good Christians.
During Advent make a promise to yourself to do the ordinary things in your life well. What one thing will you promise to do better?

FROM THE DESK OF MRS. STASI

eMessenger
Just a reminder any information that you would like inserted via the brown envelope must be approved by Mrs. Stasi. We are continuing to work on reducing the amount of paper being sent through the school. Important school information will always be included in the weekly eMessenger. In order for our parents to participate in the fundraisers of their choice, all fundraiser information may be easily printed from easy links in the weekly eMessenger. Please lend us your cooperation in supporting this initiatives.

Winter Recess is Here!
As we head into the colder months, please remember to send your children to school with warm coats for recess. Students will go out for recess on all but the very coldest days, so, hats, scarves and mittens are a must! Boots are also a good idea when there is snow on the ground. Girls will not be allowed outside with bare legs on cold days. Please send them to school with pants, sweats or PJs to cover their legs if they are wearing skirts. We hate to see their sad faces when they aren't allowed out. Questions? Contact Ann Klein 630-963-9281

Special Thanks from the SJS Staff

SJS teachers and staff send special thanks for the food and fun at the Hoe Down. Many teachers took part and enjoyed themselves tremendously. Mrs. Stasi made it a birthday party for her husband! Together we celebrated the great success of the evening! On behalf of all of us at St. Joe's, we thank ALL of those who assume leadership positions and those who contribute their time and talent as well as their funds to help pass on God's Word through their support of Catholic Education.

Mom's Calendar

This fall the students from 7th and 8th grade participated in the ‘Classroom Projects’ portion of the Hoe Down fundraiser.  Their project was a ‘Mom’s 13-month Calendar. The calendar contains 13 months beginning in January 2008 and is decorated with original artwork created by all of the students.  Each month has the day/date down the left side and headings along the top for all family members, beginning with Mom.  It also includes school and national holidays.

This very unique and creative calendar is still available (by pre-order) for only a few more days!  Don’t miss out on this chance to become extremely organized in 2008 and enjoy a fun creation by the students.
Thanks for your support. Any questions, please call, Maureen McCormick @ 630-964-9396.

Football Tradition Continues
Our football program carries many traditions. One of these traditions include the sharing of a poem written by Walter D. Wintle called "The Man Who Thinks He Can", brought to St. Joseph School by former SJS coach, Pete Mastandrea. SJS Coach Pinelli has continued to share this with our SJS players. Boys seem to treasure this, as parents have witnessed it pinned to bedroom bulletin boards. On the "Last Hit Night", SJS team member Peter Danchisin read this poem after his speech.

"The Man Who Thinks He Can"
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but think you can't
It's almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world we find
Success beings with a fellow's will;
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are:
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
