Do You Know Jesus?
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 14:25-30, 33

In today's Gospel Luke tells us a story of Jesus talking with a group of sinners and the Pharisees see this and get angry about it. They criticize Christ for his actions. We are reminded by Luke in this Gospel that Jesus came to save everyone, not only those that are always good but those that sin too. What qualities of God are highlighted in today's Gospel? Do you ever find yourself acting like the Pharisees? When and why?

CATHOLIC CONFERENCE ILLINOIS

I received an email from the Catholic Conference of Illinois relating to two programs that are of great importance to Catholic schools. In October effors will be made in the legislature to override the Governor's recent vetoes of certain items in the state's budget. This includes two programs vitally important to Catholic schools:

• $10.1 million in the School Safety Block Grant to help our schools pay forstate mandated health and safety measures, and
• $14.1 million to increase the transportation reimbursement to parents forced to drive their children to school.

STUDENT COUNCIL CAR WASH!

The Student Council Car Wash will be held SEPTEMBER 15th from 10-12 noon in the church parking lot! All students 4th grade and younger that wish to participate must be accompanied by an adult. 5th-8th grade will receive a permission slip to join the fun. Manna is a fundraiser for St. Joseph school. Earn a $50 credit for $2500 in purchases every 6 months. Credit dates are from January through June and July through December. You can use this credit toward school tuition, religious education or gift it to the Youth Ministry, Principal's discretionary fund or another school family tuition. The choice is yours.
