School Supplies

Parent Forum will again be offering parents the opportunity to purchase practically all of their children's school supplies for the upcoming school year. We encourage you to take the advantage of this service since these supplies meet the requirements of the teachers, are offered at very competitive prices, and spare you the time of purchasing these supplies individually.

We will again be handling the pick-up of the pre-packages supplies as we did last year. You will be able to pick up your child(ren)'s pre-packaged supplies at Carlson Paint, Glass and Art Store (in Downers Grove) anytime, during business hours, after July 31, 2007.

If you wish to order the supply packets for your child(ren), please complete the order form, and return it to the school office, with a check payable to Parent Forum. You can also find this packet on the school website. Please return either way by MONDAY, MAY 21, 2007. ANY LATE ORDERS WILL SENT BACK TO YOU TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES ON YOUR OWN.

Supplies not included in the packets are duffel bags and Bibles. A duffel bag is required for the children's gym cloths and shoes. The School Supply program will be offering two types of duffel bags for $10. The standard duffel bag is 18" x 8.5" with the St. Joseph logo printed on it. Again this year, a girl's drawstring backpack duffel bag is available. Both are offered in green and have the St. Joseph logo printed on it. Both of these duffel bags can be ordered on the supply form.

Bibles are required of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. If you own a used one, that's okay. Otherwise, the new Catholic Youth Bible will need to be purchased on the pre-order form attached. Please, have some Bible at the start of the school year. Duffel bags, Bibles, and Assignment Books will be distributed the first week of the school year.

We have a new Assignment Book for Grades 3-8 next school year. It is titled "good news Assignment Book" and it is year long. It is 8-1/2 by 11 inches long. Included are Feast Days, Bible quotes and references. Grades 3-8 will be using the good news Assignment Book. Grades 1-2 will continue to use the Success by Design year-long Assignment Notebook with space for Religion homework.

If you choose not to order the pre-packaged supply packet, you can use the attached supply list to purchase the supplies on your own with the following guidelines. First, the brand names listed are optional; you don't have to have Fiskars Scissors or Crayola crayons. However, sizes and quantities are to be followed. Second, the colors of the folders and notebooks are optional but should be matched- green notebook/green folder. Finally, the folders do not have to be plastic, but plastic ones do last longer.

If you have any questions regarding the School Supply program, please call Melanie Biederman (969-4587) or e-mail at biedfamily@yahoo.com. One final note for anyone interested in helping me coordinate the school supplies for next year: Carlson's makes it very painless and stress-free. Also, your child(ren) love to shop at the SJS School Supply store with their own money. I want to keep the store open every Tuesday so I need 3 volunteers plus me to work once a month.
