New Spanish Teacher, Caroline Cavanaugh

Coming to St. Joseph to share her language talent is teacher, Caroline Cavanaugh. This part-time position will bring Spanish to our 7th and 8th graders. "¡Avancemos!", published by Holt McDougal, a division of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company will be the textbook used.

Mrs. Cavanaugh's background includes a Bachelors in Spanish Education from the University of Illinois. She has developed Spanish curriculum and taught both public and private schools in a variety of grade levels throughout her career. Placements have included St. Francis College Prep High School in Wheaton, Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst and St. Barbara's middle school grades in Brookfield. She's worked with a private company, the Foreign Language Network, and while working towards her degree, also worked with adults through a Lyons Township High School Adult Spanish Program.

Travel is a favorite for this teacher. She has enjoyed traveling through the Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Ohio. She has traveled as far as Berlin and Barcelona, Spain where she met her Spanish pen-pal from sophomore year of high school. Remaining close through their writings, she even returned to Spain to attend her pen-pal's wedding.

With her husband, Kevin, Mrs. Cavanaugh has two girls, ages 5 & 7, and a gray cat named Lou. Interests include gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers while attracting both birds and butterflies to her garden.
