Mrs. Kluck

Mrs. KluckReading Specialist

Nancy Kluck joined St. Joseph School in the 2011-12 school year.  Attending Northern Illinois University, she received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.  Then, taking a break from education, she raised her five children as a stay-at-home mom.  Returning to NIU, she completed her Masters of Science in Literacy Education.  Having taught in a variety of assignments for the past six years, she joins St. Joseph as our Reading Specialist.

As a certified Reading Specialist, she will be helping individual students and assisting teachers with Response to Interventions (RtI) strategies where needed.  When asked to explain 'Response to Interventions,' Mrs. Kluck offered,  "If a child is referred, a parent might think there is something wrong with their child.  Literacy education is not special education.  I see it as being so much more successful because we are addressing the multiple needs of children. It is learning to read in different ways with a more differentiated, intensive instruction.  Some children might be missing a building block or two, and we fill that gap so children don't give up."   The goal is to help children become lifelong readers and thinkers.

Mrs. Kluck loves her job!  “I want children to learn to love to read and families to enjoy reading and sharing reading.  Reading is social…between the reader, the text and the people you share it with.  The stories and riddles at home really help develop oral vocabulary and there is the building block from which it grows.”

Living in Geneva, Mrs. Kluck and husband, John are raising their five children together.  With two college grads, two in college and her youngest at 15, Mrs. Kluck has transitioned herself back into the classroom through transitional jobs.  “I’ve been able to take care of my family while working back into my professional side a little at a time.”

Mrs. Kluck loves to be outside.  Of course, she loves to read, and she does like to stay active with exercise and bike riding.  Sharing a campfire with friends is one of her favorites.
