Saint Joseph School of Downers Grove

Mrs. McGloneMrs. McGlone

This is my 16th year at St. Joseph School. I am a Second Grade teacher, teaching all basic subjects as well as Science. Social Studies is taught by our other Second Grade teacher, Mrs. Rozylowicz. Our Second Graders enjoy classes including Art, Music, Gym, and Computer classes as well.

Before coming to St. Joseph School, I taught for 13 years in another Catholic School, where I taught grades 3, 4, 7 & 8.   I’ve also taught many years of CCD in various grade levels.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Developmental & Remedial Reading.

Personally, I love reading, gardening and needlework.

Children are like beautiful flowers in the garden of life. They are all blooming, growing, and constantly changing! The emotional rewards of teaching have been enormous.  The countless smiles, laughter, curiosity and enthusiasm from the children have made all my years in education a fantastic journey.

The best way to contact me is by sending a note to the classroom, as I will respond quickly. If necessary, you can leave a message with the school secretary.

Mrs. Mary McGlone is currently a second grade teacher at St. Joseph School.  She began her teaching career at St. Mary’s School in Riverside, Illinois, where, over a period of twelve years, she taught third, fourth, seventh and eighth grades.  Mrs. McGlone also coached the junior high girl’s softball teams and worked as a moderate of a Senior Girl Scout Troop.

After the birth of her boys, Mrs. McGlone chose to stay at home for eleven very exciting years, but remained closely linked to education in the schools they attended.  She served and participated in two local PTAs, held the position of Secretary for the Downers Grove PTA Council of Schools and was a Downers Grove School Board Observer for many years.  During those years, she was involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, serving as Tiger Cub Leader, Bobcat Leader, Committee Chairperson for Pack 80, and numerous other scouting events.

Mrs. McGlone returned to teaching, first as a Kindergarten Aide for seven years while her children were young, then as a Kindergarten Teacher for eight years, and most recently as a Second Grade Teacher at St. Joseph’s School.  Her last fifteen years at St. Joseph have been extremely rewarding.  While teaching at St. Joseph School, Mrs. McGlone has been surrounded by truly dedicated and supportive families and a very creative and talented administration and teachers.  Mrs. McGlone stated, “The emotional rewards of teaching have been enormous – the countless smiles, laughter, curiosity, and enthusiasm from the children have made all my years in education a fantastic journey.  I look forward to many more years to come.”

“I am a teacher.
A teacher is someone who leads.
There is no magic here.
I do not walk on water.
I do not part the sea.
I just love children!!!”
Marva Collins
