Saturdays of Lent from 8:30 am - 9:15 am
February 20 and 27; March 6, 13, 20, and 27
The person who practices meditation in the Christian tradition – praying in silence and stillness - seeks to be present and open to God who is always present and open to his beloved. Practicing meditation enables us, with the grace of God, to be present and open to each moment, to others in daily life, and to God’s presence in all of life. These Lent Saturday morning sessions will offer a general introduction to, and simple guidance in the practice of meditation. Each session will begin with a welcome, followed by a reading from the book, Sensing God: Learning to Meditate during Lent, by Laurence Freeman, OSB. This resource follows the Gospel of the day and gleans insights from it for the practice of meditation. Participants will then be guided into a twenty-minute period of meditation. The time of meditation will end with the Lord’s Prayer and a closing prayer. Several parishioners have committed to enter into a forty-day practice of meditation using the book, Sensing God, by Laurence Freeman. Please know that you do not have to commit to the forty-day practice or purchase the book if you simply want to have an introduction to meditation, and join with others on the Saturdays of Lent. If, however, you would like to frame your Lenten journey in this way, you can order the book, currently on sale, directly from Franciscan Media https://shop.franciscanmedia.org/products/sensing-god-learning-to-meditate-during-lent. It is also available on Amazon at full price in paperback or Kindle format. If you wish to join us on Saturdays, contact Bob Valle at bvalle@sjpdg.org, and you will receive a Meeting ID number and a passcode to enter the online group.
